The prestigious Oceans Conference and Exhibition is coming to Aberdeen, Scotland on 18-21 June 2007. This major international conference is run under the auspices of the Oceanic Engineering Society (OES) and its parent organisation The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).
Scottish Parliament Elections and Local Government Elections take place on Thursday 3rd May.
Recent figures from Visit Scotland show that the USA generates more visitor numbers than any other overseas country. Most Americans come to Scotland to visit friends and relatives, visit attractions and landscapes, and attend special events such as the Edinburgh Tattoo.
The Wick Royal British Legion Scotland Pipe Band are being advised to wear ear protection after receiving a health warning from a visiting audiologist. The noise of the Pipes was recorded at 108 decibels with the snare drums even louder at 122 decibels. This noise is reckoned to be higher than the sound produced by a jet engine at take-off.
The Scottish Parliament's Environment and Rural Development Committee, are considering extending the boundary of the Cairngorm National Park to include parts of Highland Perthshire and eastern Perthshire since these areas have been excluded. Ministers chose, wrongly, to limit the boundary, and it can be argued that the park, and parts of the Highlands that should by rights be in it, have suffered as a consequence. (Sunday Herald).
The Founder of the Eden Project in Cornwall wants Scotland to turn the story of the Highland clearances into a tourist attraction. Chief executive Tim Smit said that Scotland should be more proud of the global effects that the clearances and subsequent diaspora of Scots had on the world. (Sunday Herald).
